After attending NATO’s Nov. 21. annual parliamentary session as a member of the Serbian delegation, MP Nebojsa Zelenovic told the Danas daily that Serbia will face unfathomable difficulties if it fails to support Ukraine in its war with Russia.

A member of the Together-We Must coalition, Zelenovic told the Nov. 23 issue of the paper that “unless Serbia decides to support the Ukrainian people’s heroic fight for freedom and through sanctions condemn the [Russian] government [which is] threatening all of humanity with a nuclear catastrophe, [Serbia] will be thrust into a new circle of political hell, the repercussions of which will be unfathomable.”

According to the oppositional MP, Serbia is acting “as if war did not break out in Ukraine,” while, in fact, “[t]he world changed on Feb. 24 and an iron curtain fell on Europe.”

With regards to NATO’s report on the Western Balkans, which was adopted at the annual session, Zelenovic said that the document “indirectly speaks about the current Serbian government.” “It is an account of regional politicians violating democratic rules, playing the Russian card and viewing Putin’s Russia as a stay for their own power. It is, as the report says, a mixture of ultra-nationalism and authoritarianism,” Zelenovic concluded.
