Miroslav Lajcak, the EU’s special representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, announced on Jan 26 that he, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi “agreed that all past Dialogue Agreements must be fully implemented.”

“Back in Kosovo today to continue my frank, open and intense discussions with PM @albinkurti and DPM @BislimiBesnik on next steps and the way forward on normalisation of relations with Serbia,” Lajcak wrote on Twitter. Included in the post was a photograph of his dinner with the two Kosovo leaders.

The night before, on Jan. 25, the EU envoy told Pristina’s Klan Kosova TV that the German-French proposal is essentially a plan for normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia proper, and that it comprises 11 points.

He emphasized his expectation that both sides will accept and sign the proposal, adding that, in doing so, Kosovo has much to gain yet nothing to lose.

“We are leading separate talks with [both] sides and once we bring them together we expect them to accept the plan, sign it and implement it. Of course, we will ensure that what has been signed gets implemented,” Lajcak concluded.
