A decade after the Brussels Agreement was signed, Kosovo is farther from Serbia than it was in 2013 while Belgrade is no closer to EU membership, said political scientist Cvijetin Milivojevic on April 19.

On occasion of the Agreement’s tenth anniversary, Milivojevic told BETA that signing the accord was a mistake for Serbia – the move’s only saving grace being the fact that the country “is relatively better off economically than ten years ago.”

“The investments made over the past ten years – which we can scrutinize – are a result of the Brussels Agreement. But much more important, and harmful, is that Kosovo is farther from Serbia, while Serbia is equally far from joining the EU than it was prior to signing the agreement,” Milivojevic explained.

According to the analyst, time has shown that the Brussels Agreement is detrimental to Serbia and the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, because the Serbian state no longer has even a symbolic hold over the province.
