Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in Vrbas on Dec. 21 that the state authorities would react to "the interference of one important country" in Serbia the election process in Serbia which he said was done in the "the most brutal way so far."

Asked what Germany was hoping to achieve in Serbia, given the "aggressive rhetoric" of German European Parliament members and allegations that Berlin was pressuring other members of the EU to ask for a repeat of elections in Belgrade, Vucic said that Serbian state bodies "are composing an important letter on the interference and meddling of an important country" in the Serbian electoral process.

"This will be completed in about ten days, by the New Year, and then we will be able to send it to the entire world before Orthodox Christian for everyone to see how such forms of meddling in processes that ought to sovereignly belong to an independent country are conducted," Vucic said adding that this would not affect the finalization of the electoral process in Serbia. He said that the elections had been the cleanest and most honest so far and that he had never received more congratulatory letters from foreign officials.

On Dec. 18 the German government released a statement saying that for a country with the status of a candidate for EU membership the abuse of public resources, intimidation of voters and vote buying, which were noted by international observers in Serbia were unacceptable. The same was concluded by representatives of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the OSCE parliamentary assembly, the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe and European Parliament.
