Electoral Commission: 53.26 Percent Turnout in Bosnian Vote

The Central Electoral Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina decided on May 8 for local elections in the country to be held on Oct. 6.

The Commission scheduled the elections for all municipalities and cities in Bosnia, on the basis of the provisions of the Election Act of Bosnia and Herzegovina which the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, imposed in March this year.

Schmidt has introduced technical amendments to the Election Act which should secure fairer elections. A pilot project with electronic voting will be carried out in ten municipalities. Earlier, the Electoral Commission introduced 26 sub-legal acts, needed for Schmidt’s amendments to be implemented.

Meanwhile, the parliament of Republika Srpska (RS) adopted the Election Act of RS that completely removed the Central Electoral Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina from organizing and carrying out elections on the territory of that entity.
