On May 27, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric said that the adoption of the resolution on Srebrenica by the United Nations General Assembly was politically used to obliterate the Dayton Agreement, yet that the outcome of the vote is also a message to those pushing for Kosovo’s U.N. membership to expect significant opposition.

Speaking for Happy TV, the minister stated that the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica resolution represents “an attempt to incite conflict between Serbs and Bosniaks” because a consensus on the document has not been reached within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With regards to the results of the vote on the resolution, Djuric said that despite the fact that the topic of genocide is very difficult, Serbia “managed to draw to its side” 107 countries. This, he said, should serve as a message to those interested in lobbying for Kosovo’s U.N. membership that significant pushback awaits.

“We have an unbelievable network of friends among the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement. Our job is to turn that into a comparative advantage, which will serve not only Serbia’s interests, but those of the region and the [European Union],” Djuric concluded.
