People's Movement of Serbia president Miroslav Aleksic said on N1 TV on June 6 that the opposition had won in Nis and called on Serbian President Aleksandar Vuicc to keep his promise and congratulate the winners.
He explained that "the poll books late on June 2 after elections showed that the opposition clearly won in Nis, but then early on June 2 they were doctored to show that the parties in power won."
"It is clear that these elections were rigged and irregular, but I do not regret running in them because that is the only way to win. The Serbian Progressive Party and Vucic will never provide normal electoral conditions and fair and honest elections," Aleksic stressed.
Asked if he ran in the elections as a result of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill's influence he replied that that was "nonsense." He said that elections in Belgrade were a missed opportunity and added that had the opposition remained united it could have won.
