Belgrade had been carefully analyzing the new composition of the European Parliament (EP), which would be an opportunity for Serbia to make new friends, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric said on June 10.

“In the previous EP, there were many people who were not very friendly to us and now, Serbia wishes to establish active relations with new MEPs. We have been carefully analyzing and making lists. We will have a network of friends,” Djuric told TV Euronews Serbia.

Djuric also said that on its EU path, Serbia “will be ready to implement” all the required reforms by 2027 and to “go beyond the standards” the country was obliged to meet.

Asked about Belgrade’s position on aligning its foreign policy with the EU, Djuric said that Serbia “is in the position where it has to be very cautious about balancing its priorities.”

“Certain countries are not thrilled with our concept. We have the ambition to pursue our foreign policy, but also to gradually align it with that of the EU,” Djuric said.
