Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric has addressed the participants of the 54th session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), in which Serbia has the status of permanent observer, which is being held in Paraguay.

He has stated that the organization was an important factor in the building of international relations, through defining the political and value agenda of the western hemisphere, the Serbian Foreign Ministry announced on June 27.

While speaking in Asuncion at the meeting of heads of delegations of member states with those of permanent observers in OAS, Djuric recollected that, on the anniversary of the signing of the U.N. Charter, it was important to reaffirm, in all forums, the values contained in this document, in order to guarantee the sovereignty of states, nurture human rights and democratic principles and secure a more equal economic development.

The minister pointed out that he U.N. Charter was the foundation on which today’s world had to be built on, adding that Serbia would continue to consistently follow the rules of conduct in international affairs, established with the founding of the World Organization. Djuric met with several foreign ministers and other representatives of countries of Central and South America, on the sidelines of the first day of the OAS General Assembly’s session.
