Commenting on Croatian President Zoran Milanovic’s fresh re-election, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric said on Jan. 13 that Milanovic’s second-round win has created the opportunity for furthering relations with Croatia, which is in Serbia’s best interest regardless of the existing political challenges.

“When you look at a map of the region, you’ll see we have vital economic, security and other interests which demand better relations. To that end, it is essential to collaborate, especially on economic and security issues,” Djuric told the RTS public service.

Djuric also underlined the importance of good relations with the Croatian Government, formed by the Croatian Democratic Union rather than Milanovic’s Social Democratic Party.

“We’ve achieved good communication with [Croatian Prime Minister Andrej] Plenkovic and Foreign Minister [Gordan Grlic-]Radman. We’ve already been through an array of challenges and believe that our relationship will bring better economic and political collaboration in the future,” Minister Djuric concluded.
