The speaker of the Serbian parliament, Ana Brnabic, announced on July 26 the forming of a parliamentary commission that would deal with the question of lithium and invited the opposition to take part in the commission's work.

She told public service RTS that she would also be working on organizing a Serbian parliamentary delegation's visit to Germany and Finland, so that they could see all the activities of those states related to lithium mining.

"My challenge in this is that it is difficult to find responsible people who are apolitical with regard to this topic, as they are instantly put on one side or the other," said Brnabic.

She also advocated an argument-based debate in the Serbian parliament and called on the opposition to "cool down" where lithium was concerned.

"There is no need to fight over what could bring Serbia economic prosperity for the sake of cheap political points, let's talk based on facts," said Brnabic, who is also an official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.
