The twelfth Regional Summit of Governors, Finance Ministers and Tax Authority Directors called, "The financial and monetary stability of the Western Balkan region in conditions of continued weak economic eurozone growth" began in Becici on June 12 and will last until June 14, the Society of Economists of Serbia has said.

The summit, which the Society began organizing in 2019, is described as the largest and most important annual regional event, devoted to strengthening cooperation and developing dialogue between the region's key financial institutions.

The summit  gathers the most important creators of fiscal and monetary policy - central bank governors, ministers of finance and the directors of tax authorities as well as representatives of international financial institutions and leading managers from the banking and insurance sectors. The participants of the summit are provided with an opportunity to exchange ideas and visions of the region's future in the context of an increasingly more complex and uncertain geopolitical and geoeconomic environment.

The Society recalled that the Western Balkans was facing financial and monetary stability challenges in conditions of slower economic growth in the eurozone. "The weak economic activity of key trade partners leads to lessened export demand, foreign investments and remittances, which combined results in a growing trade deficit and current account deficit, which can cause disturbances in macroeconomic stability," it said.
