Experts on the political scene in Kosovo said on Aug. 3 that after a deterioration of relations between Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Foreign Minister Donika Gervalla, the role of the Guxo ticket had mostly faded, and that Gervalla had sided with Premier Albin Kurti to secure political office after the next election.
Before the 2021 election, Osmani and Gervalla formed the Guxo ticket, led by Osmani until she became president. The ticket then had two leaders, Gervalla and Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development Minister Faton Peci. Political analyst Arbnor Sadiku told the Pristina Koha.net that Gervalla began to analyze relations after, he said, she determined that her political interest would not be served by Osmani in the next election.
"Osmani has no future in the next political election, and Gervalla used that politically to get closer to Albin Kurti, first honing in on a deputy seat, maybe to through that obtain whatever ministerial seat she can get in the future cabinet that the Self-Determination Movement could form after regular Assembly elections," Sadiku said.
Another political analyst, Fidan Ukaj, agrees, saying that Guxo is tied to the Self-Determination and that the goal is another coalition in the next election. "I think that Gervalla views this break with President Osmani as there being no more interest to be served by Ms Osmani, and on the other hand of course she sees a political interest in Premier Kurti. It is clear now that this movement led by Ms Gervalla is aligned with the premier and the premier's moves," Ukaj said.
