Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani declared in Vitina on Aug. 15 that the European officials’ statements about the opening of the bridge across the Ibar River were “racist” and that the issue of the bridge should not be discussed in Brussels.
“We have no permissions to ask from Serbia, just like this spokesman, I think he is from Slovakia, does not ask any of the neighboring countries for permission to cross one of his bridges. Serbia has no say regarding the bridge in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, Nobody should accept the dialogue with Serbia on this issue,” Osmani stated.
In her words, “that would be unconstitutional and against Kosovo’s sovereignty, but the dialogue with allies is not just necessary – it is in the interest of Kosovo.”
“These soldiers – the Americans serving in Kosovo – who are ready to give their lives, just like our soldiers and police are ready to give their lives, deserve that we sit and talk with them. I ask the citizens to accept the proposal of the U.S., to sit and talk with them, but not like they were against Kosovo, and even less against the opening of the bridge, because that would be a logic against Kosovo itself,” Osmani said.
