The Green-Left Front co-president and party representative in the Serbian Parliament, Radomir Lazovic, said on Aug. 21 that his party backed protests against lithium mining in Serbia, led by environmental organizations, although the party had not been at the forefront in terms of their organization.

Speaking to Belgrade daily Nova, Lazovic said he was convinced that protests would resume in the autumn, explaining his high optimism relied on the fact that the opposition to lithium mining had created such unity among Serbia’s citizens like no other issue in a long time.

Lazovic also said that the recent massive rally in Belgrade as well as other protests held across Serbia had achieved much in fighting the lithium mining plans.
