Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sept. 5 that during the next BRICS summit, to which he was invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belgrade will be hosting important foreign guests and that he would rather not discuss the matter, or his attendance, at this time.
“I received an invitation for the Oct. 23-24 BRICS summit [to be held in Kazan, Russia] some 10-12 days ago. We’ll be hosting important guests from abroad then, but I’d rather not discuss that now. Let’s pace ourselves, we have many important guests, many comings and goings, [happening in the imminent future], so we’ll talk about [the BRICS summit] around Oct. 10,” Vucic told the press.
The statement was issued while the president was touring the construction site of the Sabac-Loznica Freeway. Vucic also took the opportunity to thank BRICS and Putin for the invite and to say that he will be attending the October U.N. General Assembly session in New York.
“We also have New York [on the agenda] and I already know I’ll be meeting with at least six presidents and at least seven or eight prime ministers at the margins of the U.N. General Assembly session,” Vucic said.
During his Sept. 4 meeting in Vladivostok with Serbia’s Deputy Parliament Speaker Aleksandar Vulin, Putin stated that Moscow “is awaiting President Vucic at events related to the meetings of BRICS group leaders.”
