The Get Going for Change movement filed on Nov. 4 two criminal complaints to the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad, against, among others, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, and the Serbian speaker, Ana Brnabic, following an accident in Novi Sad where the concrete canopy of the Railway Station in Vojvodina’s capital collapsed, killing 14 people below.
The Movement’s leader Savo Manojlovic told reporters that one complaint covered the cause of the accident in Novi Sad on Nov. 1, and the other the consequences that led to the collapse of the canopy at the train station.
Regarding the complaint against the state leadership, Manojlovic said that the Movement was not alleging that the officials were directly responsible for the fatal outcome, but rather pointed to a “corruption-ridden setting" that, as he put it, had been created in all major infrastructure projects.
"In all major infrastructure projects, we can see inflated prices, contracts awarded outside the tender procedure and law, secret agreements, and in such a setting companies are not required to operate based on quality, but are awarded projects through corrupt connections," Manojlovic said.
The opposition politician added that the secrecy of the contract governing the reconstruction of Novi Sad Railway Station was illegal, as was the removal of the construction permit from the website, which he said contained "the elements of a cover-up," as did “the alteration of old articles about the station's reconstruction.”
