Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Nov. 20 said that Serbian businesspeople wished to see greater and better cooperation with British companies, boost in bilateral trade in goods and services and an increase in all other social activities.

“The United Kingdom (UK) is sixth biggest economy and one of the most important political powers in the world. It is solely up to us whether we want to get wise and understand that we are not self-sufficient and that we have work with our neighbors,” Vucic told a conference focusing on trade between the UK and the Western Balkan countries held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

The Serbian president stressed that Serbia, like the rest of the Western Balkans, had not entirely used the opportunity for economic development by boosting cooperation with the UK. Vucic also said he was expecting to see trade between the Western Balkan countries and the UK double over the next two years, while now it stood at around EUR2.1 billion.

British Ambassador to Serbia Edward Ferguson said that it was now the perfect time to start building new trade relations with Serbia and the Western Balkan countries. He added that in the past 10 years, trade between Serbia and the UK had been constantly on the rise, jumping from GBP1 billion in 2014, to GBP4 billion in 2023.
