With traditional New Year’s Eve street parties scheduled to be held across Serbia in the evening on Dec. 31, students in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis have said they will gather in these cities and hold 15 minutes of silence in honor of 15 victims of the tragedy at the Novi Sad Railway Station, when a concrete canopy collapsed.

The City of Belgrade will organize a free concert at the central Republic Square, starting 3:30 pm and featuring DJs and singers, while another music event will kick off at 8 pm in the Belgrade Waterfront district.

Belgrade students will be gathering from 10:30 to 11 pm in the Pioneers’ Park, outside the City Hall, and then march to the Students’ Square, where they will at 11:52 pm hold 15 minutes of silence to commemorate 15 victims of the Novi Sad tragedy. Earlier, Novi Sad students have said their blockade of faculties will continue over the New Year and Christmas holidays, during which they will organize various drives and events.

For Dec. 31, they have planned a number of activities starting at 10 am at the university campus, while their gathering is scheduled for 7 pm. Students in Nis, like their fellow colleagues in Belgrade and Novi Sad, will organize a number of events in the city on New Year’s Eve.
