Goran Jesic, the founder of a political initiative called Solidarity, has said that the citizens' front against the regime will expand in the coming days, adding that “the regime is history,” while the only way out for President Aleksandar Vucic is to be granted asylum in a foreign country.
“We will not talk with you (Vucic) as this does not fall within your remit. Go and decorate the Christmas tree, are some of the lines voiced by protesting students. They have been making fun of him and laughing in his face, which has been driving him crazy. He is helpless. He has been left alone,” Jesic told Podgorica daily Pobjeda. He also said that students were no kids, but rather free young people, stressing it was now important to build a broad citizens' front.
“In the process of creating the Solidarity movement, the goal is to engage other social factors as well. We have talked with representatives of several universities in Serbia, professors, trade unions, lawyers, and farmers,” Jesic said. He added that the pressure on the regime would further intensify after the holiday season.
“The regime is planning to organize elections in March, according to its rules, which will not happen. They will have to come up with some alternative,” Jesic said, adding that elections could be a way out of the ongoing crisis, but “only a vote that will not be organized by Vucic, and which will be free and fair.”
