The Serbia Center party stated on Jan. 9 that attempts by the government and the line ministry to keep education workers in constant hibernation and anesthesia had failed.
The opposition party added that the government and the Education Ministry had solved the problem that started in late December 2024 and was linked to a complete suspension of work, by a "decree" on a forceful ending of the school year before its official end, illegally, relative to the adopted school calendar.
"The pressure Serbia's education workers are under while presenting their free, critical thought and supporting their students is unbelievable. The principals are making threats, the prime minister is making threats, the president of the state is making threats and intimidating [them]," says the statement.
It adds that the Education Ministry has been incessantly and systematically rendering teachers' work meaningless at all levels of education, while teachers are receiving messages, instructions, ideas, and threats through circular emails, print media or TV sets on a daily basis.
