Attorney Aleksandar Ivanovic, the nephew of murdered politician Oliver Ivanovic, said on Jan. 16 that there was no doubt that Oliver was killed for political reasons, and that the truth would come out after the Belgrade authorities were ousted.
On the seventh anniversary of the murder, Ivanovic told BETA in an interview that he had no information on an investigation launched seven years ago by the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in Belgrade.
"For six years now no one from the prosecutor's office has contacted our family while journalists looking for information are told that the case is 'top secret' and that they cannot give any information on the investigation," Ivanovic said. Commenting on why prosecutors have not found the culprits and planners of the murder, he said that all of Serbia's citizens "are hostages of a privatized and kidnapped state."
A memorial service on the seventh anniversary of the murder of SDP Civic Initiative president Oliver Ivanovic was held in the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade. According to the images that Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic posted on Instagram, the event was attended by members of Ivanovic's family, his unmarried spouse Milena Popovic, son Bogdan, state officials and citizens. Ivanovic (1953-2018) was murdered seven years ago after being shot several times in the back from a handgun in a drive-by shooting near the seat of his party in northern Kosovska Mitrovica.
