Belgrade – Pristina Dialogue (BETAPHOTO/European Council/Frederic Sierakowski)
Peter Sorensen, the European Union's new special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, said in Pristina on March 17 that "the dialogue process has led with it a number of significant developments" that need to be built up, adding that he hoped that there would be progress in the talks soon.
"Dialogue is about making sure that you meet. Whether that means compromises or not, that is for the parties to define," Sorensen told reporters in Pristina after meeting with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani.
He described a meeting with Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti as a "good beginning" and said the goal was to resume the process.
"Right now, the goal for me is to talk to people and hear where they are on the position. I have both interlocutors here in Pristina, but I also have to go to Belgrade. And once I've had these conversations, I can sit down and assess where we are. [...] We have to work and make sure that the people are serviced the best possible way and this is what we will be trying to do," Sorensen said.
Sorensen was in Pristina for his first visit since he was appointed special envoy, and he mentioned he would visit Serbia soon, too.
Osmani affirmed Kosovo's dedication to the EU-mediated dialogue in her meeting with Sorensen and stressed the importance of the full and balanced implementation of all agreements.
Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti asked Sorensen that the EU immediately lift restrictive measures against Kosovo, which, he says, is recording the greatest increase in democracy even by international indices.
