The European Union (EU) does not support the government in Belgrade and it is good that Serbia’s citizens have woken up and have taken to the streets to demand their rights, Austria’s Andreas Schieder, a member of the European Parliament (MEP), has said.
Schieder told TV N1 that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic could feel his end was nearing and was therefore nervous, adding that Serbia’s citizens should know that the entire EU stood by them.
“There is deep concern and the level of democracy in Serbia is being discussed,” said Schieder, a member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria.
Schieder also said that if the allegations that certain state forces had been requested to deploy sonic weapon against peaceful demonstrators were truthful, then it would constitute an attack on fundamental human rights of Serbia’s citizens, which should not be underestimated by the EU.
