Only 2.4 percent of all elementary and high schools in Serbia were still on strike, while all others operated normally or held shortened school sessions, Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, the education minister in the caretaker government, said on April 1.
Speaking to TV Prva, she said that regular 45-minute classes were held in 76 percent of schools, while 24 percent were teaching 30-minute class periods or were still shut.
The outgoing minister also said that a total of 49 highs schools, mainly gymnasiums, stayed shut.
Education workers went on strike during the first school term to protest the Government’s failure to meet all of their demands in relation to salary increase in the 2025 budget.
