The president of the Socialist Party of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, stated on April 3, after consultations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about the new designate prime minister, that the position of the electoral ticket consisting of the Socialists, the Unified Serbia and the Greens of Serbia, was that a new government should be appointed and that cooperation with the Serbian Progressive Party should continue.
“As you know, I said it right away, our position is that a new government should be appointed, because a stable parliamentary majority exists. We are absolutely against all forms of coup governments. We believe there is no reason whatsoever to go for elections, or to form a government that would come into power by means of the street (protests) or violence,” Dacic told reporters in Palace Serbia after the consultations.
He said that the Socialists favored the forming of the new government in accordance with the Constitution and law, but that he did not know what the Progressive Party would decide. “If that is also their stance, we have a decision in place to continue the coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party and President Vucic,” Dacic stated, adding that he believed this coalition to have represented the interests of Serbia throughout the 12 years of its existence.
“Serbia should not hold new elections. It is in Serbia’s interest to continue reforms, to restore peace and order,” Dacic stated.
