Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said at the Next Milan Forum at the Bocconi University that Serbia had a plan for energy sector decarbonization by 2050, which is why it was important that, after lifting a moratorium on building nuclear power plants, there was the possibility to consider nuclear energy in the country's energy mix in the future, the ministry said in a press release on May 7.
Djedovic Handanovic spoke at the Next Milan Forum on energy transition and the growing need for electricity in the Balkans before more than 1,000 students from all parts of the world including Serbia. She stressed that "Serbia has an ambitious and realistic long-term plan for energy sector decarbonization by 2050, for which we need base energy."
Taking part in the From Transition to Transformation: the Future of Global Energy panel, Djedovic Handanovic discussed the growing need for electric energy worldwide with International Atomic Energy Agency head Rafael Mariano Grossi.
She pointed out that a great number of youth used artificial intelligence tools in everyday life, which required large amounts of electricity, noting that data centers spent some 1.5 percent of electricity at the global level, and that the demands are expected to double by 2030.
