The students blocking the State University of Novi Pazar said in a May 19 message to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that he had no authority over the fulfilment of their demands, nor those put forward by the students of other universities in Serbia.

One of the students, commenting on Vucic’s words during a rally in Nis that he was done with the demands and was no longer interested in them, told the radio Sto Plus that the president should not be concerned with their demands anyway, because it was not his duty to meet them.  “He is half responsible for one demand – to call extraordinary parliamentary elections - but only when the Government of Serbia requests it, providing a reasoning, too. Only then will he be competent for fulling one of our demands. With such statements, he is only disempowering himself,” said Licina.

During the All-National Assembly in Nis, Vucic told the students blocking their universities and demanding an early parliamentary vote, “not to ask for them much too eagerly,” explaining that  even if such elections were called, the ruling coalition’s victory would be even more convincing than last time.

A group of ten students from the State University of Novi Pazar are cycling to Cacak, where a large student protest will be held on May 20. Students from other cities are also expected to arrive in Cacak on the evening of May 19.
