Serbian Parliament speaker Ana Brnabic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
In a May 28 morning statement for the RTS public service, Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said that, at the moment, Serbia has far more pressing issues to deal with than a snap election, namely economic development, i.e. recouping everything lost during the six-month blockades.
“The majority in the National Assembly of Serbia is absolutely stable, I’d say it’s never been more stable. [While] there’s attrition among parliamentary caucuses and some are falling apart, our majority is completely stable,” Brnabic said. She added that she is not involved in the matter of elections since it is not within her jurisdiction, but rather under the purview of the president of state, as everyone well knows.
The speaker also opined that an increasing number of MPs is interested in joining the stable majority because they recognize its tolerance, patience, vision, plan and program.
“The greater problem for Parliament is that the former regime [MPs] represent practically no one, so the blockaders are fighting outside the institutional framework – in the streets – because they don’t have their representatives within institutions, but that isn’t a majority issue but rather [an issue pertaining to] the previous regime, i.e. today’s opposition,” Brnabic concluded.
