The outcome of the local elections held in Kosjeric, in western Serbia, and Zajecar, in eastern Serbia, on June 8, showed that the rule of the Serbian Progressive Party was coming to an end, Milos Jovanovic, the leader of the opposition New Democratic Party of Serbia, said on June 10.
“This thieving and traitorous regime of Aleksandar Vucic is nearing its end. It is clear that Vucic no longer represents the future of this country. When you, despite electoral fraud, vote buying and propaganda machinery, can barely win a majority in order to retain power, it really tells more than anything else that the end is near,” Jovanovic told a news conference outside the Serbian Parliament building.
In Zajecar, the Progressives will have 27 aldermen in the local assembly, while the opposition will have 23 seats. In Kosjeric, the Progressives won by only some 50 votes, and will have 14 seats in the local assembly, while the opposition will be represented by 13 aldermen.
