Dragan Sutanovac (BETAPHOTO/Milos Miskov)
The We the Strength of the People party with representatives in parliament has called for the dismissal of Foreign Minister Marko Djuric and the recall of Ambassador Dragan Sutanovac for not distancing themselves from a letter from co-chair of the Serbian Caucus Claudia Tenney, in which she proposes that Donald Trump broker an agreement on mutual recognition by Serbia and Kosovo.
The party said that it had learned that the way that the Serbian Caucus functions is that letters by its co-chair are never sent to U.S. officials without consultations with the Serbian ambassador and that it was the ambassador's job to stay in touch with the Caucus and coordinate these and similar activities according to the minister's instructions.
"Ergo, both Sutanovac and Marko Djuric must have been acquainted with the content of the disputed letter to Trump before it was sent. Given that the letter violates the tenets of the state's policy on Kosovo and Metohija and thereby our territorial integrity, it was Sutanovac's and Djuric's duty to react before it was sent. The fact that the letter which propagates mutual recognition by Serbia and so-called Kosovo was still sent to the U.S. president leads to the conclusion that it was previously approved by Sutanovac and Djuric," the party said.
