According to Russia’s Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko, Serbian-Russian relations are “generally positive” but have been marred by concerning developments such as the surfacing of Serbian ammunition in Ukraine.
“Belgrade has not joined the European Union’s illegitimate measures [against Russia] and has no intention of doing so. We continue to collaborate, although not as intensively as before since the countries surrounding Serbia have a predominantly anti-Russian orientation. In this regard, the sanctions are creating logistic obstacles,” Kharchenko said in an interview for the latest edition of the Politika daily and added that, despite said issues, the two countries are working on an economic plan.
The ambassador went on to mention that the relationship between Serbia and Russia has been marred by certain worrisome developments, such as Belgrade’s support to several anti-Russian resolutions in international organizations.
“There was also the situation with Serbian ammunition reaching Ukrainian armed units, which, we hope, President Vucic solved immediately,” Kharchenko stated.
To the interviewer’s comment that Serbia has problems with end users, the diplomat replied: “Of course it does, but I believe that President Vucic has finally arrived at a solution which prevents the possibility of subterfuge by so-called ‘end users’ and the delivery of Serbian munitions to Ukraine.”
