Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic has stated that talks were under way with Gazprom about the new long-term agreement on the delivery of Russian gas to Serbia, the RT Balkans reported on its web-site on Aug. 21.
Djedovic-Handanovic told the Russian news agency TASS that “only particular elements of the future agreement remain to be defined,” the RT Balkans reported. The minister underscored that Russian gas had enabled Serbia to guarantee a stable supply to the population and commerce at the height of the energy crisis.
“The most important thing is that, thanks to Russian gas, we secured a stable supply for our citizens and commerce at the height of the energy crisis,” she said. In her words, Moscow is “the years-long important partner” of Belgrade in the energy sector.
The minister further stated that, after a long wait, the expansion of the Banatski Dvor underground gas storage facility had started, as agreed earlier with the Russian partners. “The increase in storage volume in our territory is crucial for energy security in changing geopolitical conditions,” she said, recollecting that one of the priority projects in the energy sector was the construction of the oil-pipeline between Serbia and Hungary.
