The Aleksandar Vucic-led regime met the members of a European Parliament delegation, who came to Serbia on Jan. 23 to assess the situation in the country, with hostility, verbal attacks, provocations, and insults. That is a familiar scenario, which is primarily designed for the ruling coalition’s voters. However, the Vucic regime made a much more serious move several days later, when it adopted amendments to a set of laws on the judiciary which undermine the independence of the judiciary and the autonomy of prosecutors’ offices, which is an unambiguous step backward on the European path.
