Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric has said that the Belgrade delegation has started its participation at the annual session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, adding he has met with his counterparts from Cyprus, Somalia, Italy, Azerbaijan, and many other countries, according to a release from the Foreign Ministry.
Djuric thanked Cyprus for its backing of Serbia’s EU integration, stressing that Belgrade was highly appreciative of Cyprus’ consistent and principled support to Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He has also met with foreign ministers of Surinam, Somalia, Italy, and Azerbaijan. Meeting with representatives of the energy sector were also held in New York, according to Djuric.
The Serbian foreign minister also said that Belgrade wished to nurture friendly relations not only with the countries in its neighborhood, but in a wider region, pursuing the tradition of the Non-Aligned Movement, as one of its founders. “Serbia fully advocates multilateralism, meaning respect of international law. Not only because of Kosovo and Metohija, which will be one of the important topics at all meetings, but also for the preservation of global stability and peace... We are everywhere trying to promote Serbia as a country of stability, but also as a country committed to principles, looking to the future,” Djuric said.
