Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric assessed on Sept. 25 that Serbia had fully seized the opportunity to be presented in a proper manner at this year’s session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, delivering a message that it is a free, strong and stable country.
“The message Serbia delivered here, at the headquarters of the world organization, in a crucial time in history, is that it is not only free, strong and stable, but also responsible, consistent and principled. These are not just phrases – that is political credit that qualifies us as a serious economic partner and a serious partner in the security sphere. As difficult as it was, this was time and energy well spent,” Djuric stated at the end of the third day of the Serbian delegation’s participation in the session of the U.N. General Assembly.
According to the statement of the Foreign Ministry, Djuric stated that, in his address of the U.N. General Assembly, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic “provided a good framework and direction for Serbia’s foreign policy in a broader sense.” He said that Vucic’s address was “carefully calibrated, well-accepted and welcomed by representatives of countries of different ideological profiles, from different latitudes, but with a common denominator – the wish for respect of international law, preservation of peace and equal treatment among countries.”
“This is also our principle,” Djuric said, pointing out that Serbia’s delegation had a large number of meetings over the course of 72 hours. In his words, the talks were about Kosovo, the situation in the region, but one of the focal subjects was economic cooperation. Djuric also said that the address of U.S. President Donald Trump had defined “a new direction in global cooperation and international relations.”
