Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Oct. 5 that Serbia will most likely hold parliamentary elections in December 2026, but that an earlier date is possible.

“The people will have the chance to choose next year, I’m hoping in December 2026, but I’m also not ruling out the possibility of an earlier date,” the president said in an evening appearance on Pink TV.

According to Vucic, hard times await Serbia but peace must be maintained.

“A difficult time awaits us all, especially because of the U.S. sanctions against [the] Naftna Industrija Srbija [oil and gas company] and other global problems. Wait and see what will be going on in a year’s time, [with] Israel and Turkey and in many other places worldwide. In any case, it’s up to us to unite to keep the peace,” Vucic concluded.
