One of the heads of Serbia’s Security and Information Agency (BIA), Marko Parezanovic, has been replaced by Nikola Vasiljevic, the hitherto chief of the BIA center in Novi Sad.

Parezanovic has been reassigned to the position of an advisor to BIA director Vladimir Orlic, which is a role with far less authority and influence on the Agency’s operation, the Nova daily reported on Dec. 7.

According to the article, the BIA has plans for more personnel changes before the year is out.

In the past, Parezanovic has been the subject of controversy on more than one occasion, including, Nova reports, the attention he drew for attending far-right rallies.

In 2018, he expressed the opinion that the opposition, media, workers’ unions and NGOs are a threat to the country’s security. Parezanovic was also mentioned as fixer able to reduce Darko Saric’s sentence ahead of an appeal hearing in Sky messages exchanged between convicted Montenegrin drug trafficker Darko Saric and his brother Dusan.
