Judges, prosecutors and lawyers protest , Belgrade, Dec. 7 2025 (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
UK Ambassador to Serbia Edward Ferguson rejected on Dec. 18 claims that the UK was behind protests in Serbia, saying that these accusations and insinuations in the Serbia media, as well as by some politicians "are entirely meaningless and harmful."
"They are hindering us in the attempt to achieve more positive relations with Serbia and raising the risk of creating the impression that British investors and tourists are unwelcome in Serbia - which in my experience is not the case. Let me be completely clear - we are neutral as far as Serbian interior policy goes. We are not involved in either organizing or financing the protests," Ferguson told the NIN weekly.
On the other hand, Britain wants to cooperate closely with the elected Serbian government, but, like everywhere else in the world, it wants to talk to everyone willing to - in the government, opposition, with businesspeople, civil society, academia and the media," Ferguson said.
"If there was any truth to the conspiracy theories that I read about in your awful tabloids, or on Russian websites spreading disinformation, I would need a much larger team, and I would have to be paid much more," Ferguson said. Speaking on cooperation between Serbia and the UK, he said that for Serbia and the UK to be "allies in the true meaning of the word" Serbia would have to join NATO.
