A delegation of European Parliament members scheduled to visit Belgrade this week is poised to talk with various stakeholders about the European Union accession process, focusing on areas and subjects highlighted in two EP resolutions on Serbia last year.

The nine Europarliamentarians in the delegation, members of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs, will meet with representatives of the Serbian government and parties in the parliament in Belgrade on Jan. 23 to discuss the additional reforms needed to advance the process of Serbia's accession to the EU, the EP said in a statement.

The members of the delegation, which will be spearheaded by Portuguese Europarliamentarian Marta Temido, will have separate meetings with representatives of the media, civil society organizations, research centers, the academic community and students. The meetings will cover issues that were highlighted in the EP's May 7, 2025 resolution on the European Commission reports on Serbia for 2023 and 2024, and the EP's Oct. 22, 2025 resolution on polarization and increased repression in Serbia one year after a railway station canopy collapse in Novi Sad killed 16.

The EP members will have separate meetings with Serbian MPs from the ruling parties and all opposition parties, BETA has learned. They will also have a separate meeting with the representatives of the five pro-European parties that reached an agreement on Dec. 25, 2025 on coordinating activities in relation to the EU -- the Freedom and Justice Party, the People's Movement of Serbia, the Green-Left Front, the Free Citizens Movement and Serbia Center. The EP members will stay in Belgrade from Jan. 22-24, and will hold a news conference at the end of their visit. They are expected to compile a report after the visit, but its effects are difficult to gauge at this time.
