Speaking at a reception organized by the Serbian Embassy in Athens on the occasion of Serbia’s Statehood Day, Prime Minister Djuro Macut said that Belgrade remained committed to strengthening strategic partnership with Greece and improving stability in the region.
On Feb. 16, Macut said that the relations between Serbia and Greece were “deeply rooted in history, religion and shared values, representing the foundation of a strong political dialogue and cooperation in the fields of security, economy, education and sports,” the Serbian Government said in a release on Feb. 17.
In his address, Serbian Ambassador to Greece Nikola Nedeljkovic thanked the Greek people, the Greek Orthodox Church and the political leadership for their continued support to Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty regarding Kosovo and Metohija, as well as their strong support to Serbia on its EU path, according to the statement.
Present at the reception were Ivica Dacic, deputy prime minister and interior minister, Sport Minister Zoran Gajic and Secretary-General Petar Janjic, as well as Greek top officials, including Hellenic Parliament speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis, National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Giannis Kefalogiannis, and Sport Minister Giannis Vroutsis.
Also attending were 53 ambassadors, including non-resident ambassadors accredited to Serbia – of Latvia, Georgia, Jordan, the Republic of South Africa, Thailand, and Chile, as well as US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle. Among the guests were also a number of diplomats and representatives of economic and sport-related sectors and the church.
