The protesting farmers' associations have announced that on Feb. 27 they will again block some 80 main, regional and local roads in Serbia, but have also demanded an urgent meeting with the Serbian cabinet.
After a meeting of multiple farmers' associations in the village of Mrcajevci, where they have been blocking the Ibarska highway for 17 days now, on Feb. 27 the farmers called for an urgent meeting with the Serbian government to discuss solving the problems that had led to their protest.
"We are sending a call to the prime minister and members of the Government of Serbia to immediately respond and meet [with us], so that we can jointly solve the problem that is escalating and seriously jeopardizing the entire primary agricultural production," the farmers' associations say and add that they will radicalize their protests unless during the day the government invites them to a meeting.
The farmers who started blocking roads on Feb. 11 demand the immediate suspension of the import of agricultural products that threaten the domestic market, until stockpiles are used up, as well as the introduction of levies and quotas on milk and meat imports.
