The Iranian ambassador to Serbia, Mohammad-Sadegh Fazli, condemned on March 2 what he described as military aggression against his country, and called the U.S. and Israeli attacks a top-level terrorist act.

Speaking to reporters in Belgrade, he said Iran’s participation in nuclear negotiations proved that Tehran did not want war, adding that the country was still ready for diplomacy, but also for defense.

“Particularly concerning are the circumstances in which this aggression occurred. Iran and the U.S. were in the middle of a diplomatic process. Despite threats, Iran did not abandon the talks,” the ambassador said, adding that Iran did not want the war to spread, or any instability in the region.

The Iranian diplomat described attacks on defense infrastructure and civilian facilities in various cities as a flagrant violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of an independent country, and also a member of the United Nations.

“This behavior sets a dangerous precedent in international relations, namely, leaders of countries being direct targets of military actions. If this is normalized, there will be no limits to insecurity and instability in the world,” he said.

Fazli cautioned that the international community faced a historic test - either a return to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and the rule of law, or a move toward an order based on the use of brute force and immunity from accountability.
