Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic on March 17 said that Serbia was not arming its military for to make threats to anyone, but to be capable of defending its citizens and territory, and was posing no danger to the neighboring countries. “When it comes to weapons and military equipment, nothing is done ad hoc or overnight, but is rather considered and planned ahead for many years,” he told TV Pink.

He also said that Serbia’s military neutrality was enabling the country to procure state-of-the-art equipment from both, the East and the West.

“We do not look at our neighbors or at others, we look at ourselves and have been building our capability to a level of deterrence posture,” Gasic stressed.

He added that the Digital Army Project would be launched in June, new equipment would be displayed on Saint Vitus Day, the Serbian national and religious holiday observed on June 28, and that the military airport in Batajnica was getting ready for the arrival of new French fighter jets Rafale.
