A European Commission representative confirmed on March 15 that all of the funding for Kosovo that had been blocked as part of the EU's punitive measures against Kosovo had been unlocked.

During a debate at a European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs session on a report for Kosovo, Jiri Plecity from the Directorate-General for Enlargement confirmed that the financial measures against Kosovo had been lifted.

"I can confirm that since May last year we have been gradually lifting the measures while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in December 2025 the canceling of additional measures. I can confirm that the Commission has now released all financial aid and funds for Kosovo," he said.

During the debate Rapporteur for Kosovo Ruiho Terras sharply criticized the measures saying that they had had a large impact on citizens, civil society and all of Kosovo society.

The restrictive measures that the EU introduced against Kosovo in 2023 consisted of freezing financing as well as stopping all bilateral meetings between European officials and representatives of Kosovo's government.

The measures were deployed in response to violent incidents in northern Kosovo, when Albanian mayors entered municipal buildings. During the incident Serb demonstrators clashed with security forces including international troops.
