The Serbian Dveri movement said on April 2 that local elections on March 29 were the best indicator that only a referendum atmosphere and unified student ticket, supported by citizens and the opposition, could defeat Aleksandar Vucic's regime which it described as a dictatorship and corrupt.
"A single student ticket achieved the best results in Sevojno, Kula and Arandjelovac, where there was a de facto referendum atmosphere. In these cities it almost defeated the regime which invested tens of millions of euros in campaigning, pressured citizens employed in state companies, public companies and institutions, but also employees in private firms, changed residential addresses so that people who do not live in these municipalities could vote and dispatched hordes of criminals that were protected by the police. Despite all of that, the difference in votes was minimal," Dveri said in a statement.
The movement pleaded with everyone participating in the fight against the regime to put aside their egos, personal and partisan interests and support those with the highest chance of winning in future parliamentary elections, which it said was a student ticket. "Everything else benefits Aleksandar Vucic and harms Serbian interests," Dveri said.
