Ana Brnabic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
The Serbian speaker, Ana Brnabic, said on April 20 said on April 20 that she did not believe that European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos would seek a freeze of funds for Serbia, adding that this would not be fair as the Venice Commission had not yet issued its opinion.
Brnabic said that the opinion would arrive in June. "We are not waiting until June. Instead, as soon as we receive the opinion of the Team of Experts, which we expected by the end of April or even sooner, we will begin working on amendments so that we would have time for a public debate, too," Brnabic said.
The Serbian speaker also said that on April 17 she had received a draft opinion of the Venice Commission on amendments to judicial laws, describing the draft as fair and balanced.
Another document outlines the opinion on amendments to electoral laws, suggesting the implementation of five additional recommendations of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). Brnabic said that she would send comments on the opinions by the following day, expecting the final opinion of the Venice Commission experts to arrive in the coming days.
N1 TV reported earlier on April 20, citing its sources, that the European Union would freeze the funds intended for Serbia, and that European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos would announce the decision at a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs.
