Speaking at EU Opportunities Week in Belgrade on April 21, Plamena Halacheva, deputy head of EU Delegation to Serbia, said that the EU is “the most committed partner” of Serbia and saw it as its future member.
“Serbia’s cultural and civil ecosystem enjoy unprecedented support of the EU. The EU is not just the biggest donor, a trade partner and source of direct foreign investments in Serbia, but it is the most committed partner of Serbia, and this week stands as evidence. Every fund, every program, every initiative we are presenting this week exists because the EU sees Serbia as a future member,” Halacheva stressed.
She also said that the EU believed in a Serbia where “citizens have a strong voice, where culture thrives, and where civil society is a reliable partner in building democratic and inclusive communities.”
“Culture and civil society are in the focus of Serbia’s EU accession path. EU engagement in these areas, through programs such as Creative Europe, Horizon Europe…and many others, reflects the belief that lasting integration is built not only through policies and reforms, but also through people, ideas, and shared creativity,” she said.
