The first Serbia-NATO joint military exercise began on May 12 at the Borovac training site in the Jug base near Bujanovac and will last until May 12 while 600 members of the Serbian army and the armed forces of Italy, Romania and Turkey are participating in it.
The tactical exercise dubbed, NATO-Serbia, is being organized by the Land Army Command and Allied Joint Force Command Naples, the Ministry of Defense has said.
"During two weeks of activities on the ground, tactics, techniques and procedures used in operations to support peace, such as securing bases, working at checkpoints, crowd control and urban warfare will be practiced," the statement said.
The exercise is being attended by military planners and observers from Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Romania, the U.S., Turkey, France and Montenegro.
"The exercise is being realized according to a Serbian government conclusion and poses a continuation of mutually beneficial, concrete and transparent cooperation between Serbia and NATO as part of the Partnership for Peace Program, based on an equal footing while honoring our military neutrality. This cooperation is in the function of preserving peace and stability in the region, advancing the operative capabilities of armed forces and strengthening trust and mutual understanding," the Ministry of Defense said.
