Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on June 27 that he was looking at his last days in office.
"This is the last time for me to be addressing you in such numbers. I probably won't have the chance to speak before so many people ever again, but I am addressing you in these numbers as the president of the Republic," he said at a Serbian Progressive Party rally held under the tagline Serbia - One Family in front of the Serbian parliament in Belgrade.
Vucic announced the unveiling of a new economic plan on June 29 that will include increased pensions. "You're looking at a big increase in pensions even before January -- I figure in November or December," Vucic said addressing his followers at the rally. He said the state especially wants to aid the poorest and that the measures that he will present on June 29 will apply to pensioners with pensions of from RSD35,000 to RSD56,000 per month.
Present at the assembly were Serbian Progressive Party president Milos Vucevic, Serbian Speaker Ana Brnabic and other functionaries of the ruling coalition. According to an assessment by the Serbian Interior Ministry, 207,000 people attended the event. A flag roughly 500 meters long, according to earlier announcements, was unfurled at the rally. The Archive of Public Gatherings claims that around 32,500 people attended the event.
